Why Is This Important?
Because we'll never not be OK with models fighting the good fight against Instagram.
Long Story Short
Supermodel Irina Shayk features prominently in the latest ad campaign for Givenchy Jeans, and one of shots features her bare breast. The image should run afoul of Instagram's draconian nudity rules, but for now it's still available.
Long Story
Quick — what's the best way to sell jeans to men? Do you flout their functionality, durability or comfort? Do you put together a slick ad campaign that shows off the jeans' high-fashion bonafides? Ha, you would fail miserably as a marketing executive. Givenchy artistic director Ricardo Tisci, on the other hand, knows exactly how to sell expensive jeans to men — with boobs. Specifically, Russian supermodel Irina Shayk's boobs.
That's a pretty suggestive advertising message: "Wear these jeans, stand around idly with your hands in your pockets, and whether you like it or not beautiful women will press their ample bosom against you." Sign me up for a gross! Other images posted by Tisci to Instagram either feature Shayk completely covered, or intentionally censored.
Though she didn't post it herself, Shayk joins AskMen favorites Chrissy Teigen and Rihanna in the good fight against Instagram's fascist anti-nudity rules. The post is still up, so maybe there's a chance that Instagram is beginning to show the kind of base-level discretion needed to distinguish something artistic (like this) from actual, obvious erotica/pornography.
Until they loosen up, we will continue to enthusiastically support the protest efforts.
